Round 8. After a year of absence, Formula One returns to North America in the Canadian Grand Prix held at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren led the team's 2nd consecutive 1-2 victory ahead of compatriot and teammate Jenson Button.
The race, which started at around 12mn Philippine time, was decided by an effectual tire strategy as the low downforce track in high temperatures made graining impossible to ignore.
The 'fighting' Red Bull duo of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were held off to 4th and 5th place just 12 days after their infamous crash at Turkey gave McLaren their first 1-2.
But the big improvement was on the double World Champion's F10 as Fernando Alonso finished 3rd on the podium after 2 lackluster performances in China and Turkey. Just 15 points adrift of Driver's Championship leader Hamilton, expect the Spanish ace to come fighting back in the next round as Ferrari's aerodynamic upgrades have finally come to fruition.
The same cannot be said for Alonso's teammate Brazilian Felipe Massa. The former protege of 7-time World Champion Michael Schumacher has not been a force lately, being continually stumped by his more aggressive teammate. Much like Kimi Raikkonen's entry into Ferrari in 2007, Felipe Massa has been the perennial second class teammate with the 'Flying Fin' taking the Driver's Title in his first year in Ferrari.
At this point, Ferrari should consider taking back Raikkonen and releasing Massa for the 2011 season. 16 Constructor's Titles, 15 Driver's Titles, 61 years in F1 and 800 Grand Prix races to date, the most famous team to come out of Maranello deserve only the best.
Raikkonen is a good choice because he delivers. The 2009 F60 was the most difficult Formula One spec car to drive but Kimi made it look so easy. Just ask Giancarlo Fisichella, who jumped from Force India to Ferrari in the latter half of 2009 substituting for the injured Massa.
Round 9 shifts to the streets of Valencia in the Telefonica Grand Prix of Europe where fans of the Spaniard will troop once again to root for the man in red.
