The Korean GP: He who ate Kimchi won

Alonso sprays Hamilton (YallaF1)
Mark Webber hands up no smile, Sebastian Vettel gives a wry smile, and Fernando Alonso could not wipe the smile off his face.

In an incident-packed inaugural Formula 1 Korean Grand Prix, the double World Champion took home the Kimchi as both Red Bull drivers failed to deliver much needed points in the run to the 2010 Driver's Championship.

Rain peltered the city of Yeongam as the 55-lap race was delayed due to dangerous driving conditions and it was in lap 17 when the Mercedes Safety Car released the drivers with Vettel and Webber leading the pack of the chasing Ferraris of Alonso and Felipe Massa, the McLarens of Hamilton and Button and the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher.

But 2 laps from release, Webber slid catching a hapless Rosberg ending both drivers' race prematurely. Alonso moved up to second chased by Hamilton. There were quite a few slips and dips and Safety Car periods as car and driver slid, drifted and tumbled into the wall.

In a pit lane incident, Alonso's mechanics bungled their pit stop owing to a loose wheel nut allowing Hamilton to exit following Vettel but at turn 1, the Brit turned wide and Alonso regained his position.

It could have been a Vettel win if not for the Renault engine blow out on lap 49 with the German doing a Kovaleinesque fire extinguishing duties near the pit lane.

Alonso then cruised his way to victory. 5th win of the season, now leading the title at 231 points with 2 races to go.

Hot Kimchi coming up!
